As we start a new school year next week, let’s consider the following idea:
Each minute we live is a new and unique moment of the universe; therefore, let us teach our children to understand that when they see someone of ability, they see a person who has been carefully taught, and who has worked hard to realize their unlimited potential. – Betty Haag-Kuhnke
When you see hundreds of students performing volumes of beautiful music in unison at Orchestra Hall, do you see an amazing pool of talent or do you see an amazing pool of commitment and hard work? What will you choose to teach your children to see?

Mrs. Haag (in a private lesson, with the child’s father videotaping): You can’t move your bow fast all the time. Sometimes you have to slow it down. Your daddy doesn’t drive his car fast all the time, does he?
Soria (age 6): My daddy drives fast all the time! Once, he even got caught by the police!
Mrs. Haag (addressing the group): If all of you put your fingers on the tapes, you get to keep your chocolate coins. Otherwise, I get to take the chocolate home.
(then, after the children play)… Oh, I’m so sad, I don’t get any chocolate! You all put your fingers on the tapes!!
Amelia (age 6): It’s OK, Mrs. Haag, I have some M&Ms at home to give you.
