ANNOUNCING: Performance at Stanford Shopping Center, Saturday, November 10, 2007

The Music Within Us students will be the featured performers for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Stanford Shopping Center! Nineteen students, ages 3 through 8, will perform a program of both classical and holiday music selections.

Date: Saturday, November 10, 2007

Time: 3:00PM

Location: Central Pavilion (outside La Baguette and Tiffany & Co.)

Following the concert, please join a procession for children and families to view the lighting of the Christmas Tree, beginning at Santa’s Village in the Central Pavilion at 5:00PM. The ceremony will conclude with special family-friendly holiday activities including hot chocolate and goodies.

Fall Open Houses Posted

The schedule of open houses for Fall 2008 enrollment has just been posted to The Music Within Us website. Please note that this year’s application deadline will be March 1, 2008. Any inquiries received after this date will be placed on a waiting list.

Going to Chicago!

We have been rehearsing every day this week in preparation for our departure tomorrow to perform in Chicago’s Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, on Sunday, May 20th, at 1:00PM.

All 21 students from The Music Within Us program, ages 2 through 8, will join over 300 other students, ages 3 through 18, in the 32nd annual spring concert of the Betty Haag Academy of Music. I myself performed in this concert 14 times from the ages of 4 through 17, and it is a unique personal experience to be able to share this with my own students. They will also get to meet my teacher, Mrs. Betty Haag-Kuhnke, whose life’s work and passion over the past three and a half decades will be showcased in this tour de force performance.

Tickets are $25.00 each and will be available at the Orchestra Hall box office, 220 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.

Performance in downtown Palo Alto!

The Music Within Us will be performing in downtown Palo Alto after the 85th annual May Fete parade on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at 12:00 noon. The theme of this year’s parade is “Wonderful World of Make Believe.”

REVISED SCHEDULE for Saturday, May 5th Open House

Due to our students’ performance at the May Fete parade in Palo Alto on May 5, we will observe the following revised schedule:

9:00AM Arrival of all students in Room H-1

9:00AM-10:30AM Combined rep class and rehearsal for all students (open to observers)

10:30AM-10:45AM Students dismissed to get dressed for performance 

10:30AM-11:00AM Parent seminar for Fall 2007 enrollment

11:30AM Students arrive at performance location in Palo Alto, dressed in performing clothes

This Saturday, March 17, in Room H-1, will be another opportunity for parents and their children to learn more about enrollment in The Music Within Us program. You can observe our repertoire class, where students at all levels receive ensemble training together. Parents who are interested in enrolling their children in Fall 2007 are required to attend an informational presentation, given by Dr. Chu, following the class. Detailed information on the philosophy, expectations of the program, and commitment from parents will be discussed, and enrollment information will be provided.

11:45AM – 12:15PM Parent seminar

NOTE: The FINAL opportunity to attend a seminar for Fall 2007 enrollment will be on Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Room H-1.

Applications will not be processed unless a parent has attended one of the informational seminars.

All applications must be received by May 15 for consideration for the Fall 2007 enrollment cycle. Trial lessons for all applicants will be scheduled for the week of May 28, 2007. Parent interviews will be scheduled following the completion of trial lessons.

• How to deal with various forms of resistance to practicing (using real-life examples from parents)

Parent meeting – Saturday, Jan. 13th

There will be a mandatory meeting for all parents this Saturday, January 13th at our normal repertoire class. The meeting will be held at 9:30AM, immediately following the first See Saw class. At 10:15AM, the second repertoire class will begin.

• Overview presentation by Dr. Chu for ALL parents who are considering participation in our trip to Chicago for a guest performance at the 32nd annual spring concert of the Betty Haag Academy at Orchestra Hall on May 20, 2007
